This article presents the first results of an ethnoarchaeological investigation carried out in the Euphrates valley near Malatya, in which the architecture of a modern village was compared to that of a Neolithic site of the 7th millennium - Cafer höyük. Some hypotheses are suggested, not only concerning the materials and techniques of construction, but also the organisation of domestic space, espacially the relationships between buildings and the spaces between them which go to make up the village complex.
