Der Fries des Dionysos-Tempels in Teos / Michaela Fuchs
Ouvrage
Publication: Wien : Phoibos Verlag, 2021 Description: 1 vol. (85 p.) : ill., plans ; 31 cmISBN: 9783851612646.Langue: Allemand Pays: Autriche Auteur principal: Fuchs, Michaela Résumé: The excavations in the ancient city of Teos, which began again a few years ago, testify to the interest that the Ionian metropolis continues to enjoy in research. At the beginning, there were the expeditions to Asia Minor initiated by the Society of Dilettanti in 1764/65 and repeated almost exactly a century later, during which Teos was also investigated. Travellers had already visited the ruins before on their Grand Tour, whereby attention was primarily focused on the remains of the temple of Dionysus and thus on the connection with the important architect Hermogenes as handed down by Vitruvius. Accordingly, the first excavation work, carried out in 1862, concentrated on the architecture of the temple, whereas the relief panels of the surrounding frieze, which were described as disappointing because of their quality, received little attention. It was not until 1950 that W. Hahland devoted a comprehensive study to the reliefs, which had in the meantime been placed in the garden of the museum in Izmir and were thus exposed to the weather. The excavations undertaken in the following years and those currently underway have increased the number of frieze panels, so that a summarised re-evaluation of the iconography and chronology of the figurative frieze as well as the historical context in which the construction of the temple of Dionysus stands appears to make sense. Connected with the present study is the hope that its results will contribute to the study of ancient Teos. (Source : site de l'éditeur) .Mots libres: Hermogène (architecte) -- Teos -- Sığacık .
